Other Side Of The Fence

OMG. I am usually the doctor and nothing I do hurts me.

But this time the roles were reversed. I was the patient instead of the surgeon.

I had no idea it would hurt so much afterwards.

But all is fine and I will be okay.

Thank goodness for my two wonderful sisters who came to be with me.

I love them so much.

I don't know how I can ever repay them.

Maybe I can take them to a concert or something when I feel better. I think they'd like that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY OLDER SISTER!

Today is my older sister's birthday.

This year I have been wallowing in my own self-centeredness and neglected to send her a card.

Or even get her a nice present like this.

But I love her so much and am very happy she did not suffer from fetal demise or SIDS.

I hope this online tribute is not too sentimental for her.

(The card is in the mail.)

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Christmas is usually a relaxing time for families to enjoy being together, exchanging thoughtfully chosen gifts and eating delicious food.

Not for us this year.

My little sister and I had a whole different kind of Christmas this year.

We had stockings full of

Worry

Anxiety

Fatigue

Disappointment

Long waits at the hospital

And when we got done with the stockings, we opened up the presents
Only to find more of the same except with the addition of generous amounts of

New problems to solve

And no quick resolutions

And an ENORMOUS box of

Which we opened immediately and shared with our older sister.

Now we all can enjoy some lasting Christmas memories.

Hope your Christmas was wonderful!

A Study in Contrasts

My little sister visited us this weekend.

I'm afraid I was not as good a hostess as she was when I visited her.

Our house was not very tidy.

I tried to clean it up a little.

I didn't get too far.  There's a lot to do.

It's been a while since we've cleaned.

There were some volunteers to lick the counters off, though.

I wasn't sure if we even had any dry towels for her to use.
Luckily she found some in the closet in the guest room.

Here is a short list of the things that we did.  Notice it does not include much exercise.

We did some shopping.

We did some swimming.

We did some eating.

We took some naps.

We played with the cats.

We ate some really good pumpkin pie.

Actually a lot of pumpkin pie.

I know she was happy to be going home again.

My Younger Sister

My little sister is 13 months younger than I am.

Quickfoot and Lightfoot

She and I used to fight a lot when were kids but once we got older and moved away from home we got to be really close.

She is the only one in the world who knows what I did when I was single.

(In case you are wondering I did a lot of going to church and knitting.)

We have been on some very fun adventures and trips together and we have been through some heartbreakingly sad ones together.

We swam with manatees in Crystal Springs.

We shoveled a lot of snow in Princeton.

We ate a lot of corn in Kalamazoo.

We have driven large rental trucks on more than one occasion to move things.

We have made ourselves laugh so hard we cried in a truck stop food court where the infamous term "cheek rattler" was coined.

I don't ever want to miss my little sister.
